Dr. Blair performs various types of major surgeries: inguinal, femoral, and umbilical
hernia repairs; gallbladder surgery; benign and malignant breast surgery; and colon and stomach cancer surgery.
Over his career he developed a strong interest in improving the rehabilitation of people with inguinal hernias. He has enthusiastically supported the use of mesh and laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernia; as well as surgery under local anesthesia with sedation, and surgery performed in an outpatient hospital setting. Today, he has a busy practice in all forms of hernia repair, which he performs at Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody, Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, and Delbrook Surgical Centre in North Vancouver. Presently, he has performed more than 2,500 hernia surgeries.
Dr. Blair was born and raised in Canada and graduated with a medical degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He interned in Scotland and then completed his training in general surgery in Toronto. After obtaining his fellowship in general surgery he returned to Scotland for further training and received another fellowship in Edinburgh. He established a community general surgery practice in Guelph, Ontario for six years.
In 1988 he joined the staff of Royal Columbian and St. Mary’s Hospitals in New Westminster and Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody. Affiliated with the University of British Columbia, today he holds a position of Clinical Professor in surgery. He also holds the position of director of surgical programs for Fraser Health Authority.
